Fly to Chicago where American and Adventist heritage will come to life in the American mid-west with visits to Andrews University, Battle Creek in Michigan and the Amish and Mennonite areas of Indiana.  Journey to Indianapolis in time for the opening program of the Adventist General Conference Session.  Take the opportunity to participate in daily worships, concerts and select sessions as well as exploring nearby places of interest including the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum.

Day 1: Sunday, 21 June 2020Depart for Chicago

Depart from your nearest capital city and arrive in Chicago where you will be met and transferred to your hotel on the edge of the Michigan Lake.

Day 2: Monday, 22 June 2020Andrews University

Today visit Andrews University, originally “Battle Creek College” but today the largest Christian college or university in Michigan. Founded in 1874, it was the first higher education facility started by Seventh-day Adventists, and is the flagship university of the Seventh Day Adventist school system. Have lunch in the University cafeteria and be taken on a guided tour of the campus.

Stopping at a number of Adventist historic sites will reveal insights into the lives of a number of denominational pioneers before arriving into Battle Creek for the evening.

Day 3: Tuesday, 23 June 2020Battle Creek

Today, we will visit the site of the Sanitarium complex built in 1878 by Dr John Harvey Kellogg and learn about the early history of the breakfast cereal industry. Also, on our itinerary is a stop at the Adventist Heritage Village which provides a wonderful opportunity to explore the local history and architecture of the nineteenth century with its school house, church and a number of historic houses which include the home of Will Kellogg, founder of the Kellogg Company and the James and Ellen White residence.

Day 4: Wednesday, 24 June 2020Battle Creek and Michigan historic sites

This morning, we will visit some denominational historic sites including the Kalamazoo River where the “Morning Star” steamer was launched for missionary work. A visit to Monterey will include stops at the home and grave of Joseph Bates.

We will leave Michigan and cross into Indiana stopping at Shipshewana. This region is home to the third largest Amish community in the USA. Our accommodation is opposite the Shipshewana Flea Market with nearly 700 open-air booths on 40 acres it is the Midwest’s Largest Flea Market. As it opens on Wednesdays, you will have free time to explore. Alternatively, take a stroll through this quaint town with its Amish horse and buggies in the parking lots of the Amish stores.

In the evening, dine on local traditional cuisine and take the opportunity to see a christian based live production with an Amish theme.

Day 5: Thursday, 25 June 2020Shipshewana

We will visit the farm of Orley Miller, a local Amish man who will introduce us to how the local Amish community live. After exploring his farm and home, he will take us to visit some Amish craftsmen and teach us about farming life in the local area. We will have a family style meal prepared by his daughter and have the opportunity to take a buggy ride.

Late afternoon, you may have some time to stroll through the town and discover locally made Artisan items in the specialty shops.

Day 6: Friday, 26 June 2020Shipshewana - Indianapolis

In the morning, visit Menno-Hof and take a fascinating journey into the unique world and history of the Anabaptists, Mennonites and Amish dating back to the 16th century Protestant Reformation. Learn how the Anabaptists started in 16th century Europe when Mennonites, Amish and Hutterites were persecuted for their beliefs by Catholic and Protestant authorities (the word “Anabaptist,” meaning “to rebaptise,” was attached to a group of believers that called for voluntary adult baptisms when the state allowed only infant baptisms). The story continues with emigration to America, and how the Mennonites and Amish live today.

We will then travel to Indianapolis in time for the evening music and worship program at the Adventist General Conference Session.

Our Marriott branded hotel is in downtown Indianapolis right behind the Indiana State Capitol Building close to the canal and many restaurants and cafes. It is an easy 10 minute walk to the Indiana Convention Centre and the Lucas Oil Stadium where the Adventist General Conference Sessions will be held.

Day 7: Saturday, 27 June 2020Indianapolis - General Conference Session Sabbath Program

Today, you will have free time to join any or all of the Session Sabbath program which may include a musical concert, Sabbath School, Divine Service, “The Church in Mission” and an evening program. The General Conference Session is the only opportunity for Adventists to enjoy this amazing and one-of-a-kind church experience with 60,000 to 80,000 people who share the same beliefs and love for Jesus.

Day 8: Sunday, 28 June 2020Connersville, Whitewater Vallery and Historic Metamora

Join the morning worship at the General Conference session at your leisure.

Enjoy a scenic journey as you travel back in time to the historic town of Metamora. Visit the working grist mill, restored canal and lock, replica horse drawn canal boat, historic covered aqueduct, shops and restaurants.

While in Richmond, a visit to the Levi & Catharine Coffin State Historic Site will take us back to the pre-Civil War days when more than 2,000 fugitive slaves were ushered to freedom through the Coffin House.

Spend time at the Model T Ford Museum which features an impressive collection of vehicles including one of the first Ts and one of the last, a Pietenpol airplane, and Vintage Garage.

On our return to Indianapolis, enjoy a free evening or attend the Session evening program where a world region will have the chance to showcase mission, challenges and opportunities, all presented with the color and flair of national dress and music.

Day 9: Monday, 29 June 2020Creation Museum

Join the morning worship at the General Conference session at your leisure.

Explore over 160 exhibits throughout the state-of-the-art 75,000-square-foot facility. Outdoors, the Creation Museum boasts more than a mile of paved and accessible trails that wind through beautifully themed gardens and past the museum’s three-acre lake.

On our return to Indianapolis, enjoy a free evening or attend the Session evening program.

Day 11: Wednesday, 1 July 2020The Ark Encounter

On the Ark Encounter bus trip, go inside a life-size recreation of Noah’s Ark, built to the specifications in the Bible! See jaw-dropping exhibits inside the Ark and experience pages of the Bible like never before.

The highlight of the Ark Encounter is a full-size Noah’s Ark replica. At 501 feet long, 51 feet high and 85 feet wide, Noah’s Ark is the largest timber-frame structure in the world, built from standing timber, in part by skilled Amish craftsman. Step inside to explore three decks of world-class exhibits about events that led up to, during and after the Great Flood as recorded in the book of Genesis. At the Ararat Ridge Zoo you can meet animals from around the world and discover how they are part of the Noah’s Ark story.

Day 14: Saturday, 4 July 2020Indianapolis - General Conference Session Sabbath Program

Today, you will have free time to join any or all of the programs of the final day of the Adventist General Conference Session.

One of the most anticipated and photographed highlights of each General Conference session, the Parade of Nations usually occurs at the closing ceremonies on the second Saturday evening. It features a colourful presentation of the worldwide church: a pageantry of flags and costumes that underscores the Seventh-day Adventist church’s global reach. Seeing ambassadors of Adventism from so many countries will serve as a reminder to attendees that each one is part of a world church.

Day 15: Sunday, 5 July 2020Indianapolis - Chicago

Today we head to Chicago, with its impressive architecture, you won’t be bored here. Choose to view the city from the 360 Chicago Tower Observatory or explore the Millennium Park.

In the evening, the group will dine at restaurant with city views for our farewell meal together.
