Projects
The proceeds from the sales on this website are used , along with donations from sponsors, for a special project which benefits the spread of the gospel in the South Pacific Islands.
The major project funded by Lawson Discovery in partnership with "Vounteers in Action" is the supply of new motorbikes for use by District Directors (Pastors) in the Islands of the South Pacific. The idea was borne in 2006 and the first 8 bikes were delivered in 2007.
We now have 52 motorcycles in operation in the Papua New Guinea Union Mission and the Vanuatu Mission and 1 in the Solomon Islands Mission. Funds are in hand for another 10 Yamaha AG100 motorcycles to be delivered this year to PNG. We hope to extend this programme to the Solomon Islands Mission in the near future.
One Pastor in PNG wrote recently to thank us for the motorcycle. He said he has 26 churches. Up to now he has been visiting those Churches for Sabbath meetings twice a year. Now he has a motorcycle he has reorganized his churches and he visits 5 churches every Sabbath (preaching 5 times). The motorbike enables him to get to his churches every 5 weeks. That alone makes the motorcycle project worthwhile. His members are getting much better pastoral care.
While district pastors receive the motorcycles for use in their areas, the motorcycles are owned by the local missions, who are responsible for their maintenance. The missions must provide an annual report as to the condition of the motorcycle and its benefit to the district pastor. District pastors and local mission treasurers sign an agreement outlining conditions of use.
Funding for the motorbikes comes from donations sent to Lawson Discovery, all profits from Lawson Discovery sales and some funds given by the South Pacific Division over two years and one large donation from the Quiet Hour in the United States. The Island missions who receive the bikes and the PNG and Vanuatu Union Missions also make a small contribution.
Any funds you can spare for this important project would be greatly appreciated and can be sent to Lawson Discovery by cheque (sent to our postal address) or credit card payment.
The cost of the motorbikes varies due to exchange rates. However they average around $3500 per bike. Some people donate the full amount for a bike, but the majority of donors give between $50 and $750. Lawson Discovery sends a receipt for each donation and then forwards all donations to the South Queensland Conference who hold them in trust until the next payment is due for new motorbikes. The conference sends an official receipt to all donors so they can be sure their gift is secure.
