Why Take Out Travel Insurance?

Travel insurance can cover you for financial losses caused by a wide range of events that can affect your tour even if they occur before (and sometimes even after) your trip. These might include travel changes, cancellation or interruption, medical expenses, theft, baggage damage and more.

For all our group trips, travel insurance is compulsory.  We recommend that you take out insurance as soon as you have booked and paid a deposit.  This will ensure that you are covered for unused travel cancellation from the date that the policy commences.  So if you (or a travel companion) become sick and unexpectedly unable to travel, you will be covered for cancellation and non-refundable payments you have made towards the trip.

Who Do We Recommend?

We have found 1Cover to be reasonably priced with comprehensive cover for cancellation and medical. They cover seniors over 80 at competitive prices.
When purchasing from any insurance company ensure that the policy meets your individual situation.

Insurance Tips

As you get older, the price of your travel insurance can start to really skyrocket. This should not stop you from travelling, after all, you’re only as young as you feel! Here are some tips on how pick travel insurance and save money.

Take Out Cover in Advance

Most insurers use the age of a traveller at the date of purchase, not the date of departure to determine the cost of insurance. This means that you could purchase a policy up until the day before your birthday and be quoted at a lower rate.  It is also advisable to purchase your policy as soon as you book your trip.  You will be covered from when you purchase the policy so if you need to cancel before your departure you will be covered.

Options for Pre-existing Conditions

If you have pre-existing medical conditions which you are sure will not cause any problems during your travel, choosing to exclude cover for that specific condition or to travel with limited cover will save you money on your travel insurance.

Credit Card Insurance

If your credit card offers free travel insurance, we highly recommend that you check to ensure that this insurance meets your needs by calling up your provider.  To be eligible, most credit card companies require that a particular amount of travel or the return air tickets are purchased with the card.  Check if you need to do anything to activate your insurance and ensure that your age and pre-existing conditions are covered.
